Danny Westneat is on the money.
It’s not absurd to check with voters one last time, given that the Seattle monorail plan is expensive and has changed some. (The argument for a revote is much stronger in the case of Sound Transit’s light rail project, which will not be on the ballot again. It has changed and escalated in cost dramatically.)
But there’s every likelihood that the measure now destined for Seattle’s November ballot will be thrown out in court after election day. That means the entire exercise-hastily assembled campaigns, public forums, tens of thousands of dollars of campaign contributions begged and spent, volunteers door belling and phone banking-will be a colossal waste.
As Churchill quipped, “Democracy is the worst form of government except all those other forms.”
